NATIONAL HEALTH PROMOTION FORUM

The 2nd NATIONAL HEALTH PROMOTION FORUM, took place in the city of Praia, on 17th and 18th July, under the slogan “health promotion and global health”.

It constituted a space for discussion and prospecting of initiatives that allow better facing the challenges of health promotion in the national and global context. It aimed above all to strengthen Health Promotion policies and national capacities with a view to improving health promotion interventions in the national and global health context, as well as to strengthen the integration of health promotion in health care, to improve the articulation and sharing of health promotion actions among the various actors and institutions at the various levels of intervention and to improve the level of planning and health promotion interventions.

The Coordinator of UAICS integrated the Scientific Committee of the Forum. She was also responsible for the Health in All Policies Round Table: the challenge of intersectorality. An innovative format was tried out that included dialogues between health and various relevant sectors:

In dialogue with Urbanism – President of the São Miguel City Council, Dr. Herménio Fernandes

In dialogue with Tourism – Director General of Tourism Dr. Francisco Martins

In dialogue with non-governmental organisations – Dr. José António dos Reis

In dialogue with the Environment – MAA representative

The important participation of the Municipality of São Miguel, through the Mayor, Dr. Herménio Celso Fernandes, who presented the Municipality’s experience, a true example of the application of the multisectoral methodology and ownership of the WHO Healthy Cities approach.
