The headquarters of the ANMCV Delegation and Headquarters of the Support Unit for the Implementation of Healthy Cities in Cape Verde CS was inaugurated by H.E. the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Dr. José Ulisses Correia e Silva. This is the first delegation of the ANMCV in the country and the first Healthy Cities office of this WHO African Region.
Cape Verde is awarded the UNITIAF 2019 AWARD in recognition of the government's commitment to electing multisectorality and intersectorality as strategic development axes based on Agenda 2030 and the Location of Sustainable Development Goals.
In February 2019, the Government of China, through the Embassy in Cape Verde, declared its support for the development of the Healthy City Programme in Cape Verde.
Following this, in May, the partnership between the UAICS - ANMCV, WHO and China is formalized and has, as a general objective, to promote the development of the Healthy Cities Programme in Cape Verde and the installation of the UAICS Headquarters and ANMCV Delegation in São Vicente. An initial sum of around three thousand escudos has been allocated to finance the fitting out works for the installation of the ANMCV's Delegation and the headquarters of the UAICS.
The Government of Cape Verde and the National Association of Municipalities, interpreting the strategic importance of the Project Healthy City in Cape Verde, sign, in April 2018, the Protocol that defines the conditions of partnership for the implementation of the Project Healthy City in Cape Verde and creates the Support Unit for the implementation of Healthy Cities of Cape Verde.
The cooperation agreement formalizes a partnership between these institutions and has, as a general objective, to promote the development of the Project Healthy Cities in Cape Verde, from a pilot of the City of Mindelo, the constitution and implementation of the Association of Municipalities Capeverdian Network of Healthy Municipalities, inspired by the good practice of the Association of Municipalities Portuguese Network of Healthy Municipalities and other relevant international experiences, and the draft Lusophone Network of Healthy Cities.
The Declaration of Mindelo was signed by various entities including the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Sport, the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, The Municipalities of São Vicente, Ribeira Grande, Porto Novo and Paul, the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão, the World Health Organization, the Chamber of Commerce of Barlavento, the Local Development Unit and some individualities, that reaffirmed the commitment with the dynamization of the Healthy Cities Project in Cape Verde.
The International Conference Mindelo Healthy City, Health and Tourism - an axis for development, represents the initial milestone of the Healthy City Movement in Cape Verde. It gathered more than 150 speakers, 10 speakers, 03 members of the Government of Cape Verde: Prime Minister of Cape Verde who chaired the Closing Session, the Minister of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing who chaired the Opening Session, the Minister of Economy and Employment who participated by video recording, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Health, in a video conference, a representative of the Portuguese Minister of Health (speaker), of deputies to the National Assembly for the constituency of São Vicente, of the Mayor of São Vicente, of the Mayor of São Vicente, town councillors and elected municipal representatives (co-organisers), of the Secretary of Health of the Municipality of Quito - Ecuador in video conference, of the World Health Organisation (co-organiser).
