Establishment of a Network of Healthy Portuguese-Speaking Cities and Municipalities

The Heads of State and Government attending the 12th Conference of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, held in Santa Maria in 2018, recognizing the undeniable strategic convergence with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, encouraged the creation of a Network of Healthy Municipalities and Cities of Portuguese Speaking Countries, which enhances the promotion of health and quality of life in the countries of the CPLP space, based on a common political vision.

Within the framework of this process of creating the Network, important gains have been made and various initiatives have been carried out, with the participation of three countries – Cape Verde, Brazil and Portugal, which stimulate work in the network and promote its structuring.

Three important international events were held in 2021 with the participation of Brazil, Cape Verde and Portugal, which enabled the sharing of experiences, with different paths in the three countries, but with a common denominator: the important role that cities/municipalities play in promoting people’s health and well-being and the importance of incorporating health into all policies. The relevance of network communication in virtual times and the construction of the Virtual Library of documents on healthy Portuguese-speaking municipalities are highlighted.
